CONCRETE HEAVEN

Robert Mills Architects, Sorrento house robmills.com.au/sorrento/

Concrete is such a beautiful material. It has a raw and organic feel but is luxurious at the same time. And contrary to its rep, it's anything but cold and soulless. It offers amazing texture and can be used as a blank canvas for any style of space. It's also so damn versatile. You can use concrete to make pretty much anything - stairs, basins, bathtubs, walls, ceilings, bench seating, tables ... And the best part is that it will take the shape and pattern of whatever it is you form it up with. I've seen the most amazing concrete ceilings and walls that have been left with the imprint of the recycled timber planks they were formed up in. It's almost like the timber planks were fossilized into the concrete. Treat concrete like you would any other wall, floor, basin, bathtub ... whatever it may be. Pair it with other materials such as timber and warm metals and soften with a rug, amazing artwork, plush towels, plants ... You get the idea.
