PASTELS

We have finally welcomed Spring with some long-awaited warm weather, and with Spring come dreamy pastel colours. Pastels are the softer, washed out tones of fully saturated colours and they're making a strong comeback in interiors. They're usually described as "pretty" but that's not to say they can't look edgy - it's all in how you dress the space. I'm not a fan of the pastels you find in baby nurseries. However, I do get excited when pastel hues such as soft mint, duck egg blue, peach or pink are coupled with unexpected pieces and finishes such as copper or brass. They also look particularly good paired with blonde timber and tan leather, and work well mixed in amongst stronger colours and patterns. They help create depth and offer some relief from overpowering pieces. However, pastels don't need to be sugary sweet. Try softer natural tones such as grey or toffee against a base of white and a few darker accents. This will give you a sought-after ultra cool Nordic look.
